Maya Gohill is a Canadian artist, educator, and inner wisdom & parenting coach, living and working in Calgary, Alberta.
She holds degrees in both Painting and Illustration, earned from the University of Calgary and the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. A painter at heart, Maya is deeply drawn to the luscious tactility of oil paint. While she currently works primarily as a fine artist, her practice is richly informed by her extensive training in illustration—both in process and visual language. Her long-standing study of the figure and portrait continues to be a central thread throughout her work.
Maya’s artwork can be found throughout Calgary, including large-scale murals and installations at Simon’s Downtown, Phil & Sebastian Coffee Roasters, and Fonda Fora at The Westley. Her work has also appeared in international anthologies such as Star Wars Art: Visions and publications by the Society of Illustrators, and is held in private collections across North America, Europe, and the Middle East.
After 17 years of teaching at the post-secondary level, Maya shifted her focus from the classroom to working full-time in her studio. Alongside commissioned work for individuals and families, she explores pottery, enthusiastically nerds out over ceramics and interior design, and brings equal devotion to her work as a Certified Coach Practitioner of the Conscious Parenting Method.
She loves spending time with her partner, her son, and their dog, Bart.
